Are you interested in becoming an even higher performing HSC teacher?
Whether you are starting your journey as a Year 11 and 12 teacher or you are looking to improve your ability to support your students in gaining the best possible outcomes, this is the course for you.
Focus areas during the course
Foundation
Initially we will work together to establish clarity around what it means to really know the students who we are teaching, how to establish a positive learning environment where all students can achieve their best. This will help teachers align their own goals with those of their students.
Development
Teachers will then have the opportunity to explore the role of the syllabus and how to use it effectively to leverage greater understanding for their students on how to use this document to know how to prepare for their course. Teachers will delve into the needs of their students with a direct correlation to how the syllabus is used by NESA to provide clarity for students.
Within this session teachers will assess and analyse the HSC Standards Materials to create their own personal understanding of what students must achieve within their course to achieve at different levels.
Consolidation
In the final session teachers will have the opportunity to apply the standards to student work to provide clear feedback on what the student has achieved, what they need to work on and most importantly explicit strategies for them to achieve this.
To complete the day’s work we will learn about the way HSC Exam papers are written and teachers will be provided with explicit strategies to deconstruct questions to meet the criteria provided by NESA to garner students stronger results.
NESA STANDARDS:
1.1.2 – Use teaching strategies based on knowledge of students’ physical, social and intellectual development and characteristics to improve student learning.
2.1.2 – Apply knowledge of the content and teaching strategies of the teaching area to develop engaging teaching activities.
5.3.2 – Understand and participate in assessment moderation activities to support consistent and comparable judgements of student learning.
